While we eagerly await the Community Shield clash between Premier League champions Liverpool and FA Cup winners Crystal Palace next week, on Sunday, 10 August, and the Betway Premiership kicking off soon after, all eyes will first be on the explosive MTN8.

The world’s best football league, the English Premier League, then begins on 15 August, with Liverpool facing Bournemouth in the opening fixture.

However, the ultimate early season showdown in the Premier League will be at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal take on Manchester United in what promises to be a mouthwatering clash.

And that’s not all.

Showmax Premier League will be your ultimate destination for all the local Cup games, as well as the thrilling action from the domestic English Cups, including the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The focus immediately shifts to the drama unfolding in the MTN8 quarter-finals this weekend. On Saturday, 2 August, the action kicks off with Orlando Pirates facing Polokwane City at 15:00 SAST at Orlando Stadium, followed by Sekhukhune United taking on TS Galaxy at 18:00 SAST at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Then, on Sunday, 3 August 2025, two more thrilling matchups are scheduled: Stellenbosch will host AmaZulu at 15:00 SAST at the DHL Stadium, and Mamelodi Sundowns will play Richards Bay at 18:00 SAST at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Current MTN8 champions Orlando Pirates will kick off their campaign looking to defend their coveted title and start the new season with silverware.

Their first formidable task is to overcome Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium.

This won’t be an easy feat for the Buccaneers, with Polokwane City relishing the challenge; their head coach, Phuti Mohafe, has boldly stated his side is “ready to take on anyone” ahead of their quarter-final clash against the reigning champions.

This season holds significant importance for Pirates, with a new manager now at the helm. Having secured a second-place finish in the league last season, the Soweto giants will be fiercely determined to disrupt Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the league by vying for their first league title since 2012.

On the same day, Sekhukhune United and TS Galaxy will battle it out in what is set to be a captivating encounter at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Meanwhile, the formidable Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Richards Bay, who earned their spot in the top eight for the first time, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The current Betway Premiership champions, Sundowns, will undoubtedly be looking to start their new campaign on a winning note.

Their ambition to dominate local football remains unwavering, and there’s no better way to set the tone than by securing a place in the MTN8 semi-finals.

Showmax Premier League is committed to bringing you the very best of football action, ensuring you don’t miss a single moment of the excitement.
