Umbuso S1
Romance, love triangles, secrets, lies, cheating, backstabbing and betrayal: the Mzansi Magic drama Umbuso centres on former prison buddies Ma E (award winner Bheki Sibiya from The Herd and Muvhango) – now a street-smart businessman – and Tiny (Makhaola Ndebele from This Is Not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection), the people’s politician, and their efforts to establish their legacies in post-apartheid South Africa with a low-income housing project in both their sights.
But a dark secret and a murder cut to the heart of both families, threatening to destroy all they have built. It’s a tale of a daughter’s search for the truth, how the past impacts the present, of crime, politics and the lengths that people will go to protect those they love, and what they believe is theirs.
Written by SAFTA winner Duduzile Zamantungwa Mabaso (Housekeepers, Diep City), the show’s cast includes the likes of Bathabile Mashigo (Scandal!), Sandile Mahlangu (Isithembiso, How To Ruin Christmas), Bahumi Mhlongo (Grown Woman, Living the Dream with Somizi, Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story, Reyka), and SAFTA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Lillian Dube (Soul City, uBettina Wethu, Isithembiso).
Also look out for Mzwandile Ngubeni (Love Back, The River, Spirit Sundae), Zinzi Zungu (Nomzamo), SAFTA nominee Christopher Jaftha (Top Billing, Bedford Wives), Sphamandla Dhludhlu (Legacy, Mina Nawe, The River), and Kwanele Mthethwa (Umakoti Wethu, Isithembiso).
