5 reasons to stream Die Ondernemers

Die Ondernemers is a Showmax Original reality series, produced by POP24, that looks at the human side of the funeral business. The show is filled with laughter, tears, heart and hymns.

In each episode, the cast takes viewers on a journey that shows that even in the face of death, life goes on in the most unexpected ways. Die Ondernemers is a glimpse into the entire process, from body pick-up to the burial and after-tears gatherings.

The larger-than-life cast includes Candice Austin, owner of Goodall & Bourne Funeral Undertakers; Jano van der Berg, owner of Van der Berg Funeral Services; and former Stormers rugby player Ramone Samuels, managing director of SamWill Funeral Services, co-owned by his brother, Springbok fullback Damian Willemse.

Now that episode 1 is streaming only on Showmax, here are five reasons to watch.

1. A new perspective on death

The show covers topics that viewers do not often get to see. It’s less about death itself and more about the funeral business. We’ll get to see the entire funeral process from beginning to end, from the undertakers’ perspective.

2.  No sugarcoating

The undertakers on Die Ondernemers are very honest about their work - they do not sugarcoat anything, and are simply doing their jobs in front of the camera. There is a lot of passion, dedication and an honest depiction of being an undertaker.

3. Surprising moments of humour

Although death is a tragic part of life, you may find yourself laughing out loud at the odd surprisingly humorous moment in Die Ondernemers. It’s not all doom and gloom.

4. It’s a good reminder to get your affairs in order

The show will prompt you to think about life and death, and  to make sure that your estate is in order. It also forces you to think about the kind of funeral you would like, and the details you might have not thought about.

5. It’s deeply relatable

Last but not least, another reason to watch the show is that it is relatable. The themes of the show are based on things that people go through on a daily basis, and you’ll see aspects of your loved ones and your own family’s dynamics in some of the families on screen.
