Umkhokha: The Curse S1
Umkhokha: The Curse centres on the battle between the Mthembu and Gumede/Mzobe families for leadership of one of the biggest churches in KwaZulu-Natal, the Ithempile Lenkosi.
The success of Mzansi Magic’s award-winning 13-part drama series Umkhokha led to the series’ reinvention as a prequel telenovela, going back to the roots of the mega-church and how greed and lust for power led to the rivalry that’s come to define these two powerful families.
Executive produced by SAFTA nominee Duma Ndlovu (Muvhango, Imbewu – The Seed, Uzalo), the show’s cast is led by the likes of SAFTA winner Deli Malinga (Redemption, Shaka iLembe) as MaMzobe, Sibongile Ngubane (Shaka iLembe, Isibaya) as Difa, Nay Maps (Blessers, Uzalo) as Sphamandla, Khanyisani Kheswa (Vula Vala, Shaka iLembe) as the young Zibuse, and Hope Mbhele (Shaka iLembe) as Mabusi, with SAFTA nominee Gcinile Nkosi (Generations, Scandal!) now portraying MaNzimande and Daniel Hadebe (Blood Psalms, Beast) as Reggie.
