Wura S3 opens with a shocking twist … and a broken heart
The final season of Showmax Original, Wura, opens with a joyous Iperindo as the entire town prepares for the wedding of the year. Tumininu Kuti is marrying the love of her life, Jeje Amoo! A true Cinderella story. But there’s a slight hiccup in the Kuti household – Iya Mide wants Tumi to wear her old wedding dress, which she bought for 8 000 Naira, many years ago. However, Tumi has already made arrangements with the renowned Hadassah Bridals through her rich in-laws. Though her mother is hurt, the bride gets her way.
At the Adeleke household, the wedding planner is feeling the heat. Paulina is failing to deliver the high-end drinks, bringing just beer instead, and the family’s chaos is slowing her down. To top it off, Grandma arrives with her sharp tongue.
“I hope you haven’t brought your bad aura like you did the last wedding we had here?” she asks, alluding to Lolu’s disastrous wedding.
“I’m sorry, Ma. It’s my job to plan weddings. What happens during the marriage is no longer my concern,” the planner responds fittingly.
Meanwhile, the only person not excited about the wedding in all of Iperindo is Dimeji. He’s brooding at his sister’s bar, and though she tries to comfort him, he storms off. That night, he visits Tumi, visibly drunk and heartbroken.
“Seeing you get married will break my heart,” he tells her, on the brink of tears. “That’s why I won’t be able to make it to the wedding tomorrow, but above all things I do want you to just be happy. That’s what matters to me the most, Tumi.”
Dimeji’s pain is only intensified by the razzmatazz surrounding the wedding. Everywhere he turns, people are talking about it. Even at Paulina’s bar, where he usually finds solace, fans of Tumi and Jeje’s love story dominate the conversation.
To escape the noise, Dimeji takes Bisola and their son on a picnic to a nearby town on the wedding day, which also happens to be Jamal’s birthday.
“Dimeji, thank you so much for being an amazing dad,” Bisola says gratefully, after Dimeji gives their son his birthday gift.
She and her son are happy. Dimeji is happy. At last, Dimeji finds a moment of peace, surrounded by love, away from the wedding frenzy that’s tearing him apart.
But then, a young man who looks strikingly like Jamal appears.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Bisola snaps. “You have no business here!”
“Fine, I have not been around, but I had to come see my son on his birthday,” the man responds, turning to Dimeji. “Sorry, we haven’t had a chance to meet – I’m Saheed, Jamal’s father.”
We wouldn’t want to be in Dimeji’s shoes right now. He is back in hell – double heartbreak on his son’s birthday, and the day his soulmate marries someone else!
